Cooped up inside with two small kids on a rainy day?!
Desperate for ideas?!?
Try this tissue paper stained glass window! Inspired by this post at Filth Wizardry. This is perfect busy work with beautiful results. Use water soluble glue and it's easily taken down when you are ready to start all over again! Allows for light to come in while offering privacy at the same time.
I have decided that we will be repeating this project on all of the windows in my house (there are 10). Some we will do only the top sash others we will do the entire window. I can't wait to post them as we make them!
1. Start with any boring old window
(this is my kitchen window)
I recommend cleaning the glass first
2. Enlist the help of two (or more) small children to paste tissue paper squares on the window
(we used a mixture of water and Mod Podge to paste)
3. Stop for nourishment and rest when needed
4. Continue pasting until you have covered the area of your choice
(good luck stopping!)
5. Enjoy your beautiful results!
(ironically enough I wrote "hurry spring" and then it snowed)
Please, if you decide to do this project post your results! I would LOVE to see them!!!
As soon as the tree comes down... all that tissue from gift bags will be put to use~
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know how long it lasted and how hard it was to clean up after you wanted to take it down. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting anon!
ReplyDeleteThe tissue paper lasted as long as I wanted to, I had it up for at least 6 months. I would have left it longer but we moved.
Clean up was easy, I just used a damp sponge to wet it down and soften the glue, waited a few minutes and then peeled it off. For the most part, it peels off in sheets.
If you tape plastic wrap to your window before starting this project, clean up will be even easier!
I am wondering it it can be done to both windows..and how the one would hold up that doesnt move. I want to do this on my kitchen so I can remove the blinds and on the sliding glass door as well :)
ReplyDeleteIt definitely can be done to both windows with no interference at all with opening and closing. The tissue paper is stuck flat directly to the window like a film.
DeleteThanks so much for posting this! I've been thinking of using tissue paper to cover the ugly, fogged up windows in our sunroom until we can afford to replace them, and this was the push I needed to get moving on it!
ReplyDeleteI finally finished doing this. I posted photos here:

We just did this, except we used a few pieces from rolls of crepe ribbon. Love!
